Alaska Process Industry Careers Consortium (APICC)

APICC, an industry-led non-profit organization, was created in 1999 by industry leaders who were concerned about pending workforce shortages in their own businesses, and who had been involved with the state's workforce policy council. Successes include the creation of an Associates Degree in Applied Science in Process Technology at three campuses across the state, and a broad School-to-Career effort targeting grade school as well as high school students. APICC has strategic partnerships with Alaska's Native American organizations, providing targeted scholarships and assistance in obtaining entry-level employment. The consortium also works with the Associated General Contractors and the Alaska Works Partnership in public relations efforts to increase participation in the trades' apprenticeship programs. Industry members include BP, ConocoPhillips, Agrium, UNOCAL, Alaska Petroleum Joint Crafts Council, Alyeska Pipeline, and the Arctic Slope Regional Corporation.

Great Lakes Process Technology Alliance (GLPTA)

The Great Lakes Process Technology Alliance (GLPTA) brings together representatives from industry, education and the community to train an educated and versatile process technology workforce.

Our primary goal is to develop a workforce with the skills and lifelong learning tools needed to support process industries today and to adapt to the changing needs of employers in the future. As part of this goal, the GLPTA develops process technology curriculum programs and materials and establishes education standards for process control operators. We believe that these activities benefit a broad range of industries in our region that depend on chemical and biological process control.

GLPTA partners are drawn from Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Wisconsin, and the province of Ontario.

Greater New Jersey Process Technology Alliance (GNJPTA)

The Greater New Jersey Process Technology Alliance provides support for the framework for students to obtain an Applied Science Degree in Process Technology. The Alliance was created between educators and industry with the common goal of providing qualified candidates for industry and job opportunities for area residents. As a result of the collaboration, an association of education providers, business and industry partners, and government and community groups have come together to develop a comprehensive process technology education program.

The program is currently being offered at Delaware Technical and Community College in Newark, Delaware and Middlesex County College in Edison, New Jersey. In addition, Elizabeth and Linden High School have put in place a Process Science Academy, which is an introduction to process technology at the secondary school level.

New Jersey's manufacturing industry includes refining, chemical, pharmaceutical and power industries that have a high demand for process technicians to fill vacancies created through attrition and by retirement of the aging workforce. Industry is looking for candidates with higher skill levels to be hired into this field. Current industrial members of the Alliance include ConocoPhillips Refining, Exxon Mobil, Infineum, Merck, Coastal Refining, Dock Resins, BASF, ICI, Uniqema, Hess Refining, Dow Chemical, Sheering Plough, Roche, Simulation Solutions, Dupont, Flavors & Fragrances, the Chemical Industry Council of New Jersey, and the New Jersey Commerce Commission.

Pacific Process Technology Alliance (PPTA)

The Pacific Process Technology Alliance (PPTA) was formed in 2003 as a processing industry collaborative. Whatcom and Skagit Counties of Washington State are a unique area with a cluster of four large refineries in a 30 mile area. There are no other major petroleum processing plants in Washington, Oregon or Idaho. In 2003, industry leaders and Bellingham Technical College got together to meet the challenge of preparing the future workforce to fill the impending gap of skilled workers. In January 2004 the first class of PTEC™ AAS degree students were enrolled at BTC. This Program received support from the WA State Board of Community and Technical Colleges in the form of grant funds and designation as a Center of Excellence for Process and Control Technology. PPTA has been very crucial to the success of the PTEC™ program and the incumbent worker skill upgrades for the local employers. There are numerous businesses providing various services to local refineries, which are also benefiting from the PTEC™ program. The consortium also works with local general contractors, heavy construction companies, fabricators, refinery maintenance services and other specialty contractors in the area. Local processing companies like BP, Shell, ConocoPhillips, Tesoro, Tenaska, Puget Sound Energy Encogen, Calpine, BP Pipelines, Williams Pipeline, Terasen Energy, IKO Pacific, Alcoa support the work and programs of PPTA.
