2009 CIBP Conference Potential Topics
The following are some potential topics that may be discussed during the CIBP conference. If you would like to present or submit other topics, please feel free to let us know!
- Attracting Employees to the Workforce – There is tremendous competition for qualified employees throughout all of manufacturing. This session discusses the most effective way to bring new employees into the workforce, and how the process industries can get their fair share of the best workers.
- Recruiting, Training, and Managing Generation “Y” Employees – With the impending retirement of the “baby boomers” there will be an influx of new employees with different attitudes and skills. This discussion addresses the characteristics of both the “boomer” and “Y” generations, and how to manage the differences between the two.
- Conducting Effective Investigations – Effective investigations are critical for problem resolution. This session discusses effective investigation techniques and strategies to ensure meaningful and relevant solutions and prevent future reoccurrence.
- What is A Partner? – CAPT has been partnering with industry and education for years. This roundtable explains what partnering is, why it is important, and what it means to be a partner.
- Mentoring – Has it Helped? – A roundtable discussion on the applications and effectiveness of mentoring new college PTEC programs.
- Physical Education for PTEC Students and Employees – One of our colleges has created a PTEC-specific physical education course. This course teaches technicians ways to be “fit for life.” In addition to providing information on nutrition, stress management, and the benefits of exercise, this course also emphasizes other job-related skills such as climbing, proper lifting and bending techniques, and much more.
- Teaching PTEC Quality – The purpose of this discuss is to share best practices for teaching quality principles to process technicians using real-world examples and hands-on activities. This discussion will be hosted by the author of CAPT’s new Quality textbook. This author is an industry representative with more than 20 years experience teaching quality principals to operators.
- Labs for the Introduction to Process Technology class – A new companion laboratory exercise book is being written to accompany CAPT’s Introduction to Process Technology textbook. Learn about these labs and the most effective way to integrate them into your program.
- PTEC as a High School Science Elective – Colorado has made “Introduction to Process Technology” an approved science elective in their high schools. Learn how they did it and find out what you can do to get your state on the right track.
- Teaching Tech Math as a Laboratory Course – One of our partners in Colorado has created an innovative way to teach technical mathematics as a laboratory course. In this course, students conduct PTEC-related experiments and then create and solve equations to explain what they have observed.
