Application Process*
  1. Secure permission from your college administrator prior to making application.
  2. Request an application from your area alliance or contact CAPT.
  3. Complete the application and submit it to your alliance by the deadline on the application.
    (Be sure to include a contact person!)

Recruiting Process

  1. Use flyers provided by CAPT in all your area high schools and across your campus. (OR- Make your own, but be sure to supply CAPT with an electronic version!)
  2. Send informational letters to high school teachers, counselors and principals to notify them of the institute. (See attached sample.)
  3. E-mail a letter to all of your advisory board members, encouraging them to distribute it throughout their company to recruit family members. (See attached sample.)
  4. Spread the word by attending Career Days or Career Fairs at your area high schools.
  5. Speak to Chemistry and/or Algebra II classes at your area high schools. (Use the Pathways to Technology video available from CAPT or order your own by visiting www.pathwaystotechnology.org.)
  6. Spread the word by sending a press release to your campus publicist or marketing department, radio and television stations. This is a great opportunity to promote your college program! (See attached sample.)
  7. A student application has been developed for you. Print as many as you need! (See attached.)

Soliciting Support

  1. Contact your industry representatives to solicit support for field trips/tours/lunches/give-aways for participants, etc. (See attached sample.)
  2. Secure transportation for field trips through your college or local industry.

Instructors and Materials

  1. Plan on at least two instructors for the week of your institute. (There is just too much for only one instructor to do!)
  2. Make sure you have access to a chemistry lab on your campus or the equipment contained in a typical chemistry lab. (You’ll need this!) (See the attached Materials List.)
  3. You will also need access to a copier and computer lab, lunch facilities for participants, a TV/VCR and project materials for class presentations.(See Sample Budget attached.)
  4. You may have to purchase workbooks from the American Chemical Society, Science in a Technical World Series for particular activities.
  5. CAPT will provide you with the curriculum you need for a week of exciting, interactive learning! (See the curriculum on our Web site.)

* This application process only applies to institutions seeking CAPT funding. Any educational institution may host a summer institute by obtaining permission from your college administrator and support from your local industry partners. CAPT flyers and curriculum are available to all our partners at no charge.
